Morning running through a verdant Montpelier, VT
Bridge of graffiti, cafe of art, swimming holes, beef steaks, very bad gin, black beans-ham-sour cream, full moon = capital of a time.
And another chance to visit Gesine Confectionery (very good coffee and vigorous bakery)

Really liked discovering most of the pieces in this group show at a great museum space.

Live music/DJs in the courtyard, through out the afternoon and into the night.

Mark Morris Dance Group performed against three Mozart pieces (which I will have to transcribe from the program.) — the dancing was structured but lively – fairly soothing, evocative of old dances of the time. Nothing frenetic.
I never expected to actually hear Emanuel Ax play piano, so this was a double treat. The orchestra and Emanuel Ax filled the hall, and the music was really the star of the night. During intermission, my friend quietly coughed and it echoed and softly returned to us. A nice first time in this hall. Most halls I hang out in I just see talky theater, not rich music.

Quick shot of some towers.
The ugly Prudential tower (designed by Ieoh Ming Pei (aka I. M. Pei)) and the more modern 101 Huntington office tower.

Had a great party at my place. Whipped up some summer food (salad with beets, walnuts, croûtons and pulled pork) as well as some adult cocktails — and mixed liberally with smart people.

Party zone a-1: My trestle table.

Jet of Blood
by Antonin Artaud
Directed by David Gammons
a bold block-typography theater poster from the early 1990’s. The play was called “Jet of Blood” by Antonin Artaud, produced at the Loeb Experimental theater, in Cambridge. It was a non-speaking piece, with a group of actors, some video and recorded music. It ran only 17 minutes. Playgoers sat on the floor and some sat on small swings. Each play performance was promptly started and finished by “machine-gun” wielding ushers. The effect was to rush the viewers in and out of theater. Such a short piece can have multiple productions in one night. It was a really fresh experience and it produced a lively night of talk as well as a favorite poster.

After a one day weather delay, NASA launched the Shuttle Endeavor, as I was being driven to the airport on August 8th. A lot of cars pulled to the side of the road just to watch. We were miles away, but my cheap camera was good enough to resolve an image.

I met one programmer at the convention who decided to skip the entire day, instead he went to Cape Canaveral to take an entire day tour of space museums and facilities. His rich day was capped by watching the launch up close. I envy this guy, he did the smart thing, and I should have done the same thing because I may never again get this close to a launch event.
